Lighting

Unit 5: Lighting

Objectives:

Demonstrate mastery of lighting a scene using a variety of lighting instruments.
Standards:
AVTFII-1:  Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.
The following elements should be integrated throughout the content of this course.
1.1  Communicate effectively through writing, speaking, listening, reading, and interpersonal abilities.
1.2  Demonstrate creativity with multiple approaches to ask challenging questions resulting in innovative procedures, methods, and products.
1.3  Exhibit critical thinking and problem solving skills to locate, analyze, and apply information in career planning and employment situations.
1.4  Model work readiness traits required for success in the workplace including integrity, honesty, accountability, punctuality, time management, and respect for diversity.
1.5  Apply the appropriate skill sets to be productive in a changing, technological, and diverse workplace to be able to work independently, interpret data, and apply teamwork skills.
1.6  Present a professional image through appearance, behavior, and language.

AVTFII-3:  Identify and demonstrate specified operational and set-up/maintenance procedures.
3.1 Review basic electrical needs for a production
3.2 Review types of audio/video/data connectors and cables.

AVTFII-6:
Demonstrate correct operations for studio and field lighting.


Essential Questions:
How can lighting change the tone of a scene?
​What lighting techniques can we use to illuminate a scene?

ACTIVITIES:

Activity 1: Textbook and Workbook

Step 1: Read Chapter 15 in our textbook and then review the Powerpoint HERE on Lighting. (All materials available with audio upon request)
Step 2: Complete the Chapter 15 workbook activities on pages 77 - 83 ONLY HERE. 
Step 3: Take the Chapter 15 Quiz HERE after you have submitted your Workbook Activities.

Activity 3: Hands on Work (Large Group)

Step 1: View the scene from No Country for Old Men.
Step 2: Work with your assigned large group to complete your scene recreation assignment found HERE. Remember to take pictures of your set each day for continuity. 
​
Step 3: I have attached a video below that might help when shooting with a DSLR in Low Light settings.
Step 4: Retrieve footage from Common Drive for individual edit.

Activity 4: Lighting Project

Step 1: You will use the existing script found HERE or write your own original 1-2 page script for a low light/nighttime shoot that will show your mastery of lighting.
​Step 2: HERE is the rubric that you will be assessed on.
​Step 3: This shoot may take place away from school.
Student Example

Submit your reflection to me via Google Classroom. It must be no less than 5 sentences about your experience during this unit.
